JLR have all ready announced they will be introducing an all-electric drive chain system soon, but could be debuted in the new Range Rover Sports Coupe which has also been given a 2017 release date? The latest member of the Range Rover family is introducing the brand into the more road-biased market to directly target the BMW X6. Spy images have emerged which show the new model and the differences between the Sports Coupe and the standard SUV Range Rover, the main being slightly smaller bootspace.
The new Coupe takes inspiration and the same aluminium body of the Jaguar F-PACE, but is expected to have a much more intimate interior with new materials and finished and feel much more like a cockpit than any other Land Rover has in the past. Both rear doors will be reduced slightly in size to help with the elegant styling.

The same six and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will be fitted into the new Coupe, but it’s unclear weather the 4-cylinder unit inside the F-PACE will be available. Range Rover are also expected to offer a hybrid powertrain system based on the 340bhp 3.0 SDV6 HEV unit found in the current Range Rover, to suit possible owners who live in the mega-cities across the world.
The new Sports Coupe could feature JLR’s all-new electric powertrain which will be fitted to their I-PACE EV, which we are expecting to see next year. The electric model is set to help JLR hit a new Californian target of 15% fleet mix of battery electric vehicles between 2018 and 2025.
Range Rover could also choose their most powerful 542bhp 5.0-lire V8 supercharged engine for the new Coupe which would reward the model with incredible performance. Taking into account the weight differences, the Sports Coupe could have a 400kg advantage on it’s German rivals.
Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern and Range Rover design boss Phil Simmons are expected to develop a new look for the Sport Coupe, by using the sporty, extended bonnet proportions of the Jaguar F-PACE. When the car is released, the new car will measure around 4.7 metres in length, which is around 0.2m shortler than the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
