Aston Martin and Red Bull have this week revealed the incredible new AM-RB 001 hypercar, the result of collaboration between the two companies much lauded design teams.
Announced as a ‘ground-breaking’ partnership in March, the collaboration between the two companies has seen Red Bull’s legendary F1 designer Adrian Newey share expertise with Aston Martin’s Marek Reichman and David King to produce the ultimate road car.
“I’ve long harboured the desire to design a road car,” commented Newey. “I’ve always been adamant that the AM-RB 001 should be a true road car that’s also capable of extreme performance on track, and this means it really has to be a car of two characters.
“That’s the secret we’re trying to put into this car – the technology that allows it to be docile and comfortable, but with immense outright capabilities.”
Powered by a naturally-aspirated V12 engine and with a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1, the AM-DB 001 will generate 1bhp per kilo of weight, thanks to its ultra-lightweight carbon fibre structured base. To put those numbers into perspective, the AM-DB 001’s performance level will be in line with an LMP1 Le Mans Prototype.
As expected with such an advanced and special vehicle, production will be extremely limited. Aston Martin say there will be between 99 and 150 road car produced in addition to 25 track-only versions, deliveries are expected to begin in 2018.
